The lectures are accompanied by photographs and stories from Israel & from the world.
• Duration: an hour and a half. Also available are series of lectures.
• The lectures are adjusted to the participant’s interests and are suited for all ages. They might interest guides & educators, planners & designers, environmentalist & social activists, and anyone who is interested in life quality improvements.
• Optional: combining “Hands On” group activity (coordinated in advance).
1. Man, Environment and All the Rest - From the dawn of History man has struggled to balance culture with nature. In a nutshell, we will review the environmental Crisis, and various approaches for the question “What is progress?” will be introduced.
2. Hide & Seek - We will observe people who have chosen to retire from the modern life race and unite with nature in the depth of the forest or in the desert. We will get to know eco-communities and volunteer hosting farms.
3. Environmental is First of All Social - Who suffers more – the rich or the poor? Some will claim that it’s useless to invest in the environment without dealing with social justice. We will examine struggles around road constructing, power stations and antennas, open public spaces, seashore, etc.
4. Two Bird with One Stone - How can we simultaneously treat environmental and social problems? We will observe groups that are trying to create an ecological auto-sustainable space, wisely using the local resources and in the same time helping the locals.
5. Nature as a Wise Mentor - We’ll observe nature and let it be our guide. We’ll learn to appreciate nature’s free services, to go with it and not against it, and to help it recover.
6. Eco-housing - How do we build our houses reducing environmental pollution? We’ll get to know alternative and sculptural construction techniques: clay / straw houses and more. Ecological upgrades for existing homes, green building for mass population, and planning of eco-cities.
7. Gardner on the roof - How to grow healthy alimentation close to the house even in small spaces? We’ll review ecological gardening methods: water and organic matter recycling, mulching, elevated beds, poly-culture, inviting birds to our balcony, etc.
8. Green and the City - Options for improving big city life will be introduced. Community gardens, preserving urban nature and historical buildings. Gardening in every available space and green transportation. Street events setup and empowering the homeless.
9. My Green Childhood - studying in nature has many advantages. We’ll review examples for creating ecological spaces, adopting urban nature sites and environmental activism – in kindergartens, youth movements, and in the neighborhood with parents-kids cooperation.
10. The Ten Commandments - Permaculture is an ecological planning and designing method which is tought all over the world. We’ll go through part of its core principals and see how they are implemented in various sites.
11. Smart Art - We’ll review different examples of eco-social art. Recycled Nylon made bags, picked by homeless in India. Rehabilitation of abandoned industrial sites in Europe which attracts back nature and vacationers. Nature made collages, renovating thrown furniture and creative waste usage.
12. Greening Your Workplace - in association with Green Course seniors (Students for the Environment, Israel). Many people would want to bring a change within their workplace, but they do not believe that they will succeed in changing the system. In fact there is a series of green business procedures that can save lots of money annually while saving out planet. We’ll observe examples of big companies who have made it. The lecture is addressed to companies, organizations and businesses.
13. Ecological site visits – Community gardens, historical building restoration, urban Permaculture farms, organic farmers, eco-building, green educational institutes. Each time we’ll get to know a different theme, we’ll meet pioneers that fulfill their green vision within the city. And we’ll help them in their effort.
